Creating a Legacy of Community Health

Mrs. Henrietta Aku Soglo, a retired Midwife Officer of 36 years, recognized the dire lack of healthcare in Likpe Mate, particularly for women. With the nearest well-stocked medical facility nearly two hours away, even basic medicines were scarce. Determined to make a difference, she founded Henrietta Chemicals, a retail pharmacy and clinic, in September 2013 to provide essential medicines and consultations, transforming life-saving medications from a rarity into readily available resources for all.

In 2020, when Mrs. Henrietta fell ill, her son, Wisdom, had to step in to continue her legacy and ensure his community didn't lose this vital resource. Having worked at the shop since its inception, Wisdom knew exactly how to run the business and even had ideas for further increasing access and improving health outcomes for the community.

After a chance meeting in 2021, I was so impressed by Wisdom's story and business acumen that I kept in touch. After a few small projects and looking over the business, Amity Group partnered with Henrietta Chemicals in January 2024.

In just six months, this collaboration led to the opening of a second store branch and significantly improved their community reach. With our support, Henrietta Chemicals now employs two full-time, qualified medical assistants who ensure accessible care at their two locations.

Henrietta Chemicals' vision, in partnership with Amity Group, is to establish 8-10 branches and a mobile clinic to provide broader healthcare services in surrounding towns and villages, particularly targeting farming communities.

Wisdom says, "This partnership has not only improved healthcare accessibility but also created employment opportunities for the local population. We at Henrietta Chemicals are excited about the future as we continue to provide quality healthcare services to the people of Likpe Mate and beyond."
